Built by Volunteers, Free for Every Family

Name in a Book started as a volunteer project at Opportunity Hack, a nonprofit based in Arizona that pairs software engineers with charitable causes. Parents, teachers, and therapists told us the same thing: personalized books and social stories work wonders for kids — but custom books are expensive, and making social stories by hand takes hours that educators don't have. So we built a free tool that does it in minutes.

As a nonprofit project, we have no investors and nothing to sell you. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no premium tier. Volunteer engineers build and maintain the site, and Opportunity Hack covers the hosting and AI costs, because personalized stories shouldn't be a luxury. If the tool helps your family or classroom, telling another parent or teacher about it is all the payment we need.

• Your stories are private by default. Stories are only visible to you unless you explicitly choose to publish and share one.
• We don't sell data. We have no advertisers and no data buyers. See our privacy policy for the details.
• Age-appropriate by design. Story generation is constrained to child-appropriate themes, and every story targets the age group you select.
• Secure sign-in. We use Google sign-in, so we never see or store a password for you.

Families use Name in a Book for bedtime stories where their child is the hero. Special education teachers, SLPs, and OTs use our social story generator to support autistic students and IEP goals. ESL families use personalized stories to learn English. Whatever brings you here, it's free — that's the point.
